Three local examples, with their original units

The following Northwell sources were checked on September 30, 2026. They are public posting examples, not a live vacancy feed, verified offers or a representative sample. Application availability was not tested. The date records our source review, not the date the employer first published the role.

The table intentionally does not rank the occupations by a converted annual figure. The roles differ, and converting hourly pay requires assumptions about paid hours. Those assumptions would be a hypothetical model, not another fact from the posting.

Five checks before comparing

Five pay-comparison checks: occupation, geography, reference period, unit and covered population. A posted range is not interchangeable with an occupational median or total compensation.
A comparison is only as useful as its definitions. Preserve occupation, geography, period, unit and population before drawing a conclusion.

First, match the occupation and specialty. A general RN figure is not necessarily comparable to a particular specialty role. Second, match geography. Third, identify the reference date or period. Fourth, preserve hourly or annual units. Fifth, identify the population: one vacancy, employed workers nationally or another group.

A national median can add context, but it does not set the expected offer for a local vacancy. BLS reports a May 2025 national median annual wage of $97,550 for registered nurses. That measure describes a broad U.S. occupation, not the Manhasset posting or an individual nurse. BLS Registered Nurses ↗

The middle of a range is not a forecast

You can calculate a midpoint, but it does not become the likely starting salary merely because it is easy to compute. A range can reflect a position’s pay structure and the factors the employer applies. The actual offer needs direct confirmation.

Also distinguish base pay from total compensation. Ask which differentials, additional payments or benefits are included in a quoted amount. Do not add a bonus mentioned elsewhere to a posting unless the employer confirms that it applies to the particular role and person.

For two hourly roles, ask about paid hours and schedule before estimating income. For an annual role, ask what the annual figure represents and which employment terms accompany it. Avoid presenting an assumed forty-hour week as though the source promised it.

Use the comparison to improve a question

A useful question is: “I see this range on requisition 197742. Which compensation components does it cover, and what determines the actual offer?” That is more precise than asking whether the whole organization pays a single rate.

If pay is driving a training decision, compare the education cost and time with realistic uncertainty. A published upper bound should not be treated as your guaranteed earnings after completing a program. Nor should a range from a different occupation be used as the payoff for a credential that does not qualify you for that occupation.

Finally, recheck the official source before a decision. A saved range can remain useful historical evidence after a posting changes, provided the date and scope remain attached. It should not silently become “current Northwell pay” simply because the article is still online.
